Teams & Fans Help Save Man

Community Safety Sep 10 / 2015

On Wednesday, the 2nd day of September, 2015 a 36 year old baseball player collapsed in the outfield at the Thunderbird Park in Wikwemikong. An off-duty paramedic, an off-duty nurse, team mates, opposing team mates, and fans ran to the male. The male was unresponsive and CPR was started immediately by the paramedic and nurse with help from team mates.

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police were dispatched to the location with a defibrillator at the request of ambulance. Upon police arrival, several members of the community were directing police to the male. The defibrillator was applied to the male and 4 shocks were delivered with CPR being continued between shocks.

The male was loaded into the rear of an SUV with an open flat back. An off-duty paramedic and police officer continued CPR in the rear of the vehicle. The SUV was escorted quickly by police to meet with the ambulance near the boundary line. During transport 1 more shock was delivered and CPR continued. The male became responsive just before being transferred to the ambulance.

The male is still in hospital and is doing better.

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police want to thank all those who performed CPR, fanned the male with their Jerseys, pointed police in the right direction and provided assistance. Thank you to all those who allowed rescuers space to do what they needed. And also thank you to everyone who had this man in their prayers.
